Archos, the French tech maker has launched a new Tablet in the form of the Archos 101 XS, which is looking set to become a decent competitor to the Asus Transformer range of devices with its Tablet screen and attachable keyboard.
The Archos 101 XS has a 10.1 inch 1280 x 800 display tablet which runs off the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The device comes with a special Coverboard which is a combination of tablet cover and a keyboard allowing for the device to be used as a tablet or with a functioning QWERTY keyboard.
The coverboard is connected by a magnet system that once you flip the cover off you can use it as a keyboard dock.
The Archos 101 XS runs off an ARM smart dual-core A9 processor at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM and has a 16GB or Memory which can be expanded up to 64GB by a microSD card.
The tablet also has a front facing camera, USB 2.0, mini HDMI, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct and the device will be running off the pure Android ICS software with no additional Archos User Interface.
The tablet is just 8mm thin, making it one of the slimmest tablets out there, with the actual measurements coming in at are 273 x 170 x 8mm and weighing just 600g.
Archos has announced that the Tablet will be getting Android Jelly Bean 4.1 update sometime in November and that the Tablet will also be getting some smaller brothers before the year is out in the form of a 8 and 9.7-inch XS.
It looks to be a very ice Tablet and the Coverboard certainly will make the device more usable. The Archos 101 XS is set to come out mid-September and cost £299.
