Virgin Media has officially announced its plan to enhance the versatility of its television services – and following the lead of Sky will be launching TV Anywhere on smartphones and tablets beginning this autumn.
Just like the aforementioned Sky app – Sky Go – Virgin’s offering was teased in a screen shot back in June, and will put programming in the palm of our hand, delivering both live streaming and on-demand content to Apple iOS and Android devices as well as allowing subscription customers to access their recorded content from the living room TiVo box. The aim is to essentially provide all you can expect from your set-top box including electronic programme guides to setting up TiVo recordings remotely on our pocket gadgets and full screen playback anywhere – hence the name.
The TV Anywhere service, the app and the new website will be free to access for all Virgin TiVo customers with a healthy Wi-Fi connection – which is another part of the Virgin product range that has recently been undergoing some changes with broadband speeds (supposedly) boosting by double.
Lucky iPhone and iPad owners will be first to try out the platform when it launches in the next few months with Android fans next in line early in 2013.
