Now that Microsoft’s best mate Nokia has announced the first Windows Phone 8 devices, the floor is open for other manufacturers, such as HTC, to announce their new phones.
We’ve heard plenty of rumours that HTC has two or three new smartphones ready to launch with the new Microsoft software, two of which are rumoured to be the 8S and 8X – Windows Phone equivalents of the One S and One X. The 8X is reported to be the flagship, and was previously known as the ‘HTC Accord’.
We’ve got some juicy new details on the Taiwanese manufacturer’s new top dog for Windows Phone, thanks to a Twitter user with very loose lips. ‘Football4PDA’ has divulged information on unreleased HTC phones twice in short succession, firstly confirming that the final name for the HTC Accord will be the ‘Windows Phone 8X HTC’, which isn’t anywhere near the realms of catchy.
A picture of the phone was also tweeted, and although slightly blurry it looks very much to be in HTC’s style. Unfortunately the image only shows the top left corner of the phone along with its name, but from this we can tell that the phone will feature a front facing camera and a square design that’s akin to the iPhone 4S – this is looking completely different to the One X and One S and more like the One V.
Shortly after causing a stir with the name and picture, the user then uploaded a screenshot that purportedly shows the ‘slightly updated’ specifications of the phone. Some of these match up with reports we’ve heard in the past, including a 4.3-inch 720p HD screen and the 8-megapixel camera on the back. The leak tells us a bit more about the camera, namely its F/2.0 28mm lens and Full HD video capabilities. Unfortunately the picture also shows a somewhat low-power 1.2GHz dual-core processor, although that is backed up with an ample 1GB of RAM.
Asides from the processor the phone has a good-looking specification, including Beats Audio integration, NFC, 1080p HD recording from both the front and rear cameras, and 16GB of internal memory.
Of course, there’s every chance that the leaks are fake. There’s also a chance that if they’re real, the specifications aren’t the final choice, so we could still see a faster processor. HTC has a press event set for September 19th, so hopefully we’ll find out for certain then.
