Owners of the award-winning Galaxy SII needn’t worry about being left in the dust of the new Galaxy SIII, as Samsung has confirmed its plans to bring the new Android Jelly Bean software to the phone this November.
We recently heard that the Android 4.1 software would be hitting the Galaxy S3 first in October, and now Samsung’s Sweden, Norway and Denmark departments have confirmed the update schedule for the second-gen smartphone.
It looks as though the Galaxy SII will be updated to Jelly Bean this November, one month after its bigger brother, the S3. There’s no specific date given, but we’d expect the first phones to get the update to be SIM free ones.
The LTE version of the Galaxy SII will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich before the end of the year as well, but won’t be seeing Jelly Bean just yet.
Samsung’s curvy and well-made Galaxy S Advance will also be hitting Ice Cream Sandwich before the end of the year, upgrading from 2.3.6 Gingerbread.
It’s already confirmed that the S3’s Jelly Bean update would bring much faster scrolling and app opening, along with RAM optimisation, improved Wi-Fi and fast battery charging. We would expect some of these improvements to hit the S2 as well, although it obviously won’t be in the same leagues of ‘fast’ as the S3 and its quad-core processor.
