HTC may have just inadvertently leaked their own upcoming smartphone in the form of the Windows Phone 8-sporting HTC Elation. The company accidentally placed the phone live on their website way before any official information for the handset had been officially revealed, and over a month away from the official Windows Phone 8 OS release date.
HTC has a press conference set for Wednesday (September 19th) in New York and is likely to announce the phone then, but tech website Ubuntulife claims that HTC has posted details of its upcoming flagship Windows Phone 8 handset on its own website.
The handset has originally been rumoured as the HTC Zenith, but the newly renamed HTC Elation has now been leaked with similar specs to the HTC One X, including the 4.7-inch HD 720p super LCD display, 1.4GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 8MP rear camera and 1.3MP front camera, but the OS is the new Windows Phone 8.
Ubuntulife managed to capture a screen grab from the HTC website error that shows the handset, which does look distinctively like the HTC One X, but with the familiar Windows Phone control buttons at the bottom.
Nokia has been the only other company to fully get behind the launch of the Windows Phone 8 OS but it is thought that most manufacturers will also be supporting Microsoft’s latest OS, with the Samsung Ativ S leaking online and smaller brands such as Huawei also making noise about the OS.
We should find out more about the HTC Elation at HTC’s press conference on Wednesday, which will start at 4pm UK time.
