Well the Windows Phone 8 smartphones are not even released yet and still they are suddenly in a legal battle, all before a single user has got their hands on devices. This time the legal wrangle is surrounding HTC and Nokia as the new Windows Phone 8 supporters are looking set to go to court over HTC’s new WP8 smartphones.
Reportedly Nokia is prepping a lawsuit following the launch of HTC’s new Windows Phone 8-running HTC 8X and 8S smartphones. The issue is reportedly surrounding the extreme likeness between the already announced Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 Windows Phone 8 smartphones and HTC’s two new models.
A very brief side by side will show any casual user that the ne HTC 8X and 8S range of smartphones bears more than a small resemblance to the Lumia 920 and 820 handsets, and it would seem that Nokia has noticed this and is ready to take action.
The report comes from PC-Tablet.com, via unnamed sources, which claims that the Finnish firm is in the midst of baking up a patent dispute with Taiwan-based HTC. The report states that “Nokia has said in reports that the front-face of HTC 8X looks identically same as of the Lumia 820 followed by side-curves of the phone body.”
And so it would seem Nokia has eyes…
Now we are no strangers to legal battles between big tech companies (see Apple and Samsung’s on-going battle) and in this case we can’t really see that HTC will have a huge room for movement as the Nokia range was announced over a month before the HTC devices, and the Lumia colouring and style was established back in 2011 with the original Nokia Lumia range.
This could get interesting!
