Google’s Nexus 4 smartphone and Nexus 10 tablet both sold out within an hour or so of going on sale earlier in the week, sending a wave of frustration across the web from eager would-be early adopters.
Many thought that Google had undersold the devices in order to generate hype, although it appears the case is quite the opposite. Some of those who successfully managed to place an order for one of the devices are now receiving emails from Google to say that there’s going to be a delay of up to 3 weeks before their item ships.
Google appears to have now oversold both products, resulting in all models being put on back order while the company gets more from the supply chain. The LG-made Nexus 4 smartphone and Samsung-made Nexus 10 tablets are both available in 2 storage sizes, and both seemed to sell out at the same time.
In the UK we saw a very short spell where more went on sale – at a ludicrous time of the night/morning, we might add – although those soon went and the ‘SOLD OUT’ notice was finally put up, after Google left users feel confused with the order status on the Play Store for each device.
It’s hardly surprising that the Nexus 4 has sold out so quickly, with a great design and flagship features such as a quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM at a bargain basement price. The Nexus 10 is slightly more expensive but still cheaper when compared to the iPad, and it offers a higher resolution display to boot. We suspect the main draw of these products is the “vanilla” Android experience, with no sign of customisation or apps from manufacturers to get in the way.
Did you successfully order your Nexus 4 or Nexus 10? If so, have you received it yet?
