Sony’s PlayStation Network will be down today for users in a scheduled outage for the company to do some tweaking and update the service. The company announced the service outage to its users and has stated that they will be undergoing maintenance today (Monday 3rd December) for an eight hour period.
The PSN will be down for eight hours spanning from 8am to 4pm PST (or 11am to 7pm ET), during which time Sony will be putting in some improvements to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita’s network infrastructure.
Sony has put out the following statement:
“If you’ve signed onto PSN over the past few days, you’ll still be able to play online and access apps during this period, but you may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, and Account Management as these services will be unavailable,” Sony notes. “Be sure to sign in now if you wish to access the Network during this maintenance window.”
So basically, if you don’t sign in beforehand you won’t be able to access the online functionality of PSN during the maintenance time.
This is scheduled maintenance designed for Sony to improve the service, so there is no need to panic about Sony suffering another PSN hack and losing your connectivity for a whole month!
