Apple has made a big statement this week in a interview with Bloomberg BusinessWeek, where CEO Tim Cook has stated that the company will be bringing “some production” of its Apple Mac computers back to the US in 2013.
The news comes after many years of sourcing its parts and using production in the likes of Brazil, Korea and China via companies such as FoxConn.
In the full statement Cook said:
“Next year we are going to bring some production to the U.S. on the Mac. We’ve been working on this for a long time, and we were getting closer to it. It will happen in 2013. We’re really proud of it. We could have quickly maybe done just assembly, but it’s broader because we wanted to do something more substantial. So we’ll literally invest over $100 million. This doesn’t mean that Apple will do it ourselves, but we’ll be working with people, and we’ll be investing our money.”
This is good news for the US economy but possibly not great news for fans who are hoping for a more consistent price drop in Apple’s products, but with the US giant taking work back to its home country many will see past their high prices.
Either way, in a world of global production it is nice to see a company contributing back into their country of origin.
