HTC are continuing their hokey cokey with their new HTC Butterfly Android smartphone. We thought the handset would be released in the UK, then HTC said actually it wouldn’t and then the exact same phone under a slightly different name goes up for pre-order in the UK – are you still with us?
Yes, the handset we thought to be the HTC Deluxe has gone up for pre-order at Expansys.com under the name of the HTC Butterfly. The HTC J Butterfly was released in Japan over a month ago and since then we’ve had news of a renamed version hitting the US as the HTC Droid DNA, and then we were led to be believed that the handset would then be released in the UK as the HTC Deluxe.
That final piece of the puzzle seems to be a ruse as HTC is reportedly stocking the handset to the UK online retailer but with no release date or pricing we still find it hard to believe the Android running smartphone will be released in the UK.
Normally we wouldn’t be that fussed about the indecision about the launch of a smartphone but the J Butterfly/Droid DNA is a beast of a smartphone that we can’t wait to get our hands on.
It has a 5-inch Full HD 1080p screen with an 8-megapixel camera on the back. The handset runs off a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor and should come running the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.1 OS.
The phone looks like a strong contender to take on Samsung’s Note 2 smartphone in the oversized Android phone-come-tablet market!
We have contacted Expansys to see if they will confirm availability of the handset but will put our name down to get the HTC Butterfly just in case in the meantime.
