Sky Go is set to receive a big boost in compatibility by means of an update, as the company looks set to update the app to suit Jelly Bean devices very shortly.
The app, which is both desired and at the same time lamented by many, offers catch-up and live streaming content for Android smartphones and tablets in the UK. However, the company has been very picky when it comes to compatibility, with only 11 devices listed as compatible.
It’s been a while since the app was updated and since then Google has launched the new and speedy Jelly Bean in the form of versions 4.1 and 4.2. We’ve seen a number of excellent devices launched with Jelly Bean since, but the main pain for many is the loss of Sky Go when updating an older device to Jelly Bean. Users with phones like the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Nexus, who were once able to stream TV using the app, lost all use of it when they updated to Jelly Bean earlier in the year.
Sky’s new update adds compatibility for some new devices as well as older ones that have upgraded, including the excellent Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 from Google. HTC’s Desire X, One X, One XL, One S and One V are also now compatible, as are the Xperia S and Xperia T from Sony. As for Samsung, owners of the Galaxy S3 LTE, Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy Ace 2 and Galaxy Note 2 will now be able to use Sky Go.
Finally, LG’s flagship 4X HD phone will also be on board with the app. These new devices join the existing bevy of compatible phones below, with support for those which have now upgraded to Jelly Bean:
HTC
Desire, HTC Desire S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Incredible S, HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XE
Samsung
Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Galaxy Note
Sky Go is available to download now from the Play Store as a free download.
