Nokia has been in the tablet rumour mill before, but now whispers of a Windows tablet are surfacing again – no pun intended.
It’s been a while since we heard about Nokia’s plans to release a tablet, with the last report coming from Nokia’s design chief Marko Ahstisaari himself, who confirmed that the Finnish firm were working on something. Now that familiar name DigiTimes claims to have some new information on the device.
The same publication claimed to have word from component suppliers back in March that the company was looking to create a tablet, and now it says that Qualcomm and Compal Electronics are back on board with Microsoft to develop a 10-inch Windows RT tablet.
Like the Microsoft Surface, Nokia’s tablet is said to run on an ARM-based processor and therefore utilise the more basic Windows RT software that’s been designed for use with tablet devices.
The Finnish company is expected to come out all guns blazing at the Mobile World Congress event in February, where it will apparently reveal the tablet for the first time. Tech website The Verge has also received confirmation from US network AT&T that it plans to stock a Nokia tablet next year, which adds further substance to the report as well as confirming that the tablet will be 3G or 4G compatible.
Specifications and other precise details are still unknown, but we’re hoping Nokia will carry across the design ethic from its Lumia smartphones to provide something sturdy and colourful. What would you like to see from a Nokia tablet?
