It’s been confirmed that Samsung has started rolling out an update to Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 for its new Galaxy Camera.
The new smart camera will be upgrading its Android OS to be more in line with the likes of the Galaxy Note II – we know, a camera that’s like a smartphone, it’s crazy. Samsung launched the device running Android Jelly Bean, so the update to 4.1.2 is something of a minor bump.
In updating to Android 4.1.2 you’ll notice that the key change is to the Gallery app. Those who have used the new Galaxy Note II will find it familiar, with the old 2D grid of album thumbnails now replaced by a revolving 3D carousel to make things a bit more exciting.
If you’ve already picked up a Galaxy Camera then you can upgrade either over the air by connecting the camera to Wi-Fi, or by plugging it in to a PC or Mac and using Samsung’s Kies software, just as you would with a Galaxy smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy Camera is a compact camera that features a large 4.8-inch AMOLED touchscreen, Android Jelly Bean, a quad-core processor and access to apps from the Google Play Store. In terms of camera features it boasts a 16.3MP sensor, pop-up Xenon flash and 21x optical zoom.
