Temple Run 2 coming to iPhone and iPad later today

  • by

Imangi Studios have revealed that they will launch Temple Run 2 for iPhone and iPad later today, bringing a sequel to the hugely popular free title that saw millions of downloads and a feature in Apple’s apps of the year honours 2012.

The app is already available in the New Zealand App Store and will subsequently land in the US and European stores as we approach the launch date of January 17th in each time zone. As such we’ve had a glimpse of the gameplay through an early demo video which shows that the gameplay is largely similar in format – you’re controlling a man across a tricky landscape while trying to avoid something that’s chasing you.

That ‘something’ seems to have evolved from a pack of odd-looking monkeys to one giant, terrifying monkey-like creature, while the protagonist you control – who reminds us of Guybrush Threepwood of Monkey Island fame – remains the same.

Your surroundings have changed from a swampy temple to some sort of temple path in the clouds, but you’ll still need to swipe and tilt to stay on the path and avoid articles while collecting coins. New additions to the game include mine carts to ride in and zip wires to zoom along, which look set to make Temple Run 2 even more addictive than the original.

Temple Run 2 will be free to download for iPhone and iPad later today but there’s no word on an Android release at the moment.
