Rockstar has finally announced the long-awaited release date for the next instalment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise of games, GTA V. The release date for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be a slightly delayed September 17th 2013.
The game was originally meant to be a spring release for the consoles, which Rockstar had confirmed, but the company has delayed the release until September in order to polish up the game before its release.
The statement from game maker Rockstar reads: “We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.
“To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.”
Whilst it’s a pain that the game will be delayed the last thing any of us want is a unfinished GTA game. However, what this September release does do is put GTA 5 in competition with some seriously big hitters from franchises like Call of Duty and FIFA, both of which will be releasing games around that time.
The announcement was made only regarding the PS3 and Xbox versions of the game so no release date has been said for the Nintendo Wii U and PC versions of the game.
