Skype has confirmed that its overdue Skype app for BlackBerry 10 OS will be coming to the latest OS, but those expecting a custom built BlackBerry 10 app will be disappointed as the app that will be available for BB10 sporting devices (most notably the BlackBerry Z10) will be a port of the existing Android app.
Skype posted on its website to let us know that it is “working closely with BlackBerry to ensure the Skype for Android app runs great in the BlackBerry 10 environment.”
Now this isn’t the first time that Android apps have been ported onto the BlackBerry 10 operating system, as back in January over 15,000 Android and Apple iOS apps were ported over to the BlackBerry World system to be downloaded on the (then) forthcoming BB10 OS.
However, since the apps have been ported many people have expressed issues with some apps that were ported from Android that weren’t working so well.
Hopefully the Skype port wont suffer any of these issues as it will be one of the biggest and high profile apps on the BlackBerry World app store.
What’s more, with the recent success of Z10 sales and the initial pre-orders going better than most could have imagined, there is a high chance that Skype will start working on a native app for BlackBerry 10 for the very near future.
Skype says that the app port for the BlackBerry 10 platform will be available “soon” but there is no specific release date.
