Samsung will launch the long-awaited Galaxy S4 on March 14th at an event in the US, with confirmation coming from several trusted industry sources.
Things started off by Russian tech insider and Mobile-Review founder Eldar Murtazin, who tweeted today encouraging us to save the date for March 14th. Whilst he didn’t elaborate what for, he did say that HTC’s sales of the One smartphone – expected to launch tomorrow – would be affected by whatever was happening on that date.
Samsung experts SamMobile then added confirmation that Murtazin’s tweet was indeed referring to Samsung’s launch for the Galaxy S4, adding that the event itself will take place in New York, whereas last year the S3 was launched in London.
Further backing up the reports, The Verge has received confirmation from its own Samsung sources that the phone will “definitely” launch on March 14th.
According to their sources, Samsung will reveal one or more devices that day. This coincides with a recent report that Samsung is currently working on three devices as part of ‘Project J’ – consisting of a Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Mini and possibly a Smart Watch.
Samsung will apparently stick with the marketing techniques used for the Galaxy S3, focusing on features and software rather than hardware specifications – things like Smart Stay and S Voice.
Finally, The Verge’s sources believe that the jump in smart features between the S3 and S4 will be much bigger than we saw from the S2 to the S3. Samsung added a huge amount of features and intuitive tricks with the S3, which impressed us a lot, so we’re very excited to see what they could have in store next month.
As for when you’ll be able to buy the phone – nobody really knows, but Samsung is likely to aim for a 2 week period between the launch event and public sales, so the end of March looks to be a likely bet.
