An app that allows iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users to hide unwanted system apps such as Stocks and Weather without the need for a Jailbreak has crept onto the Apple App Store.
The app, created by a chap by the name of David Goelzhaeuser, is a free download from the App Store which allows the user to tweak the iOS software in ways that Apple would certainly not like to see. For example, users can completely disable iAds, effectively taking out those pesky adverts that appear in a thin bar at the top or bottom of some apps.
This sort of functionality is generally only found on Jailbroken iPhones, with several software tweaks of this nature easily found in the Cydia store. The ability to get rid of unwanted apps that Apple installs as standard in order to create a less cluttered homescreen is one of the main reasons people Jailbreak iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches.
The app is very basic and unfortunately any changes you make to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch will be reversed if you happen to turn off, restart or update your device. You can always re-do the changes within the app again, however.
We can imagine that Apple’s Newstand is most likely the first app people will want to hide with this app, as it cannot be deleted nor put into a folder to hide away if you don’t want to make use of it.
If you fancy a bit of iOS tweaking and a taste of what Jailbreaking can be like, the app can currently be found as a free download in the App Store. Hurry though; we’ve a feeling that Apple will take it down very soon.
