One of the coolest things happening over on Kickstarter right now is the Pebble Smartwatch. It’s an Android and iPhone compatible wrist gadget that does more than just tells the time. It’s incredibly innovative and versatile and one of it’s newest features is a customisable watch face -which has been turned into a retro style Nintendo Game & Watch in the latest demo!
The throwback Super Mario Bros. screen is one of a number of faces that can be displayed and modified by budding developers when a new SDK becomes available in the second week of April for the Pebble concept watch which is currently available to pre-order with over 85,000 pledgers already backing the $150 gadget.
You can of course choose to have the conventional ‘analogue’ and ‘digital’ display but this particular face features a familiar scene for nostalgic Nintendo gamers as the World and Stage digits represent the hour, minutes and date, while classic hero Super Mario actually counts the seconds for you by jumping for coins!
This is just a small sample of how amazingly versatile the Pebble Smartwatch can be and using bluetooth to connect to the two leading mobile operating systems it can offer alerts and notifications of incoming calls, texts, emails and Twitter mentions as well as being used to display them. The Pebble can also support a variety of using and entertaining apps available from a dedicated Pebble Watchapp Store and sporting types can benefit from features such as distance counter for running and cycling and even a range finder for the golf enthusiasts!
The Pebble Smartwatch will work with Apple iPhones with iOS 5 and 6 and also Android smartphones with version 2.3 Gingerbread and above. Check out GetPebble.com for the full details on this exciting and innovative project!
