Samsung Galaxy S4 to get 1.9GHz Quad-Core not Octo-Core Processor in UK

Well this sucks, as reports from news site Omio is reporting that Samsung has confirmed that the processor inside its incoming Galaxy S4 smartphone in the UK will be a Quad-core chipset and not the announced 8 core octo processor that other territories will be getting.

Samsung originally announced the new flagship handset in its phenomenally successful Galaxy S range of phones, that the S4 would come with an octa-core processor but they did state that the the kind of processor inside the phone would vary by country. Of course us in the UK were expecting to get the full powered Samsung 1.6GHz Exynos5 octa-core chip but it turns out we will now be getting the 1.9GHz Qualcomm quad-core chip.

So what does this mean?

Well probably not a lot, as the current range of Samsung galaxy S3 and Note 2 smartphones both run off a Quad core chip and very little phases them, even the most taxing of apps vs. multitasking, so we don’t expect that the lack of octo-core will really hamper the S4.

In the a statement from Samsung Omio states:

Currently, the Galaxy S4 will be available at launch in the UK as a 4G device with a 1.9GHz Quad Core Processor.”

No word on what the “currently” part of the statement means, whether Samsung will release the 8x processor later on in the S4’s life, but we are not to bothered.

Hopefully the 1.9GHz Quad Core Processor will prove to be a better battery saving option than the 1.6GHz Exynos5 octa-core chip as normally the more chips you have the more battery can be drained.
