Samsung is back to reclaim that ‘world’s biggest smartphone’ title, launching the aptly named Samsung Galaxy Mega today. The phone will come in two different screen sizes; a 5.8-inch model and a 6.3-inch behemoth.
The Samsung Galaxy Mega is most certainly based on the Korean company’s new flagship, the Galaxy S4, but is aimed at those who want a phone that requires two handed usage. The 6.3-inch beast sports a HD resolution display (with a resolution that we’re still waiting for confirmation on from Samsung), whilst the 5.8-inch model features a slightly less sharp 960 x 540 resolution.
Both will of course operate very similarly to the S4, running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean paired with Samsung’s latest TouchWiz user interface and a host of features. The likes of Air View, Multi-Window and Pop-Up Play will all be present, so you’ll be getting the latest set of Samsung’s ‘Natural’ features.
In terms of power, the larger model sports a dual-core 1.7GHz processor and an epic 3,200 mAh battery to keep that huge screen going. Connectivity comes in the form of LTE and HSPA, whilst the smaller Galaxy Mega will only support HSPA for 3G networks.
Both models sport 8 megapixel rear cameras and front facing shooters, although storage options vary between the two. If the larger 6.3-inch model takes your fancy then you have the choice of 8 and 16GB versions, whereas the smaller model is an 8GB only device. Both feature micro SD card slots to offer expansion by up to 64GB.
Samsung hasn’t revealed any prices yet, as this phone really is hot off the press right now. We do know that Europe and Russia will be the first places to get both models however, starting from May. Stay tuned for more details as we get them!
