Apple has launched a new minor software update for iPhone 5 users ahead of this summer’s imminent launch of iOS 7.
iOS 6.1.4 is an iPhone 5-only update and is available right now via the usual methods. It brings a number of fairly minor fixes that will improve the overall usability of Apple’s latest and greatest smartphone.
At only 11.5MB in size, the update should download and install in minutes, so it’s a pretty quick job and one that’s worth doing to ensure you’re fully up to date. The most notable purpose of the update is to update an audio profile for the speakerphone, which we’re told lead to improved sound quality when playing audio through the iPhone 5’s external speaker.
As per usual, the update can be done either over the air or via iTunes. For over the air, ensure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and then follow Settings > General > Software Update. Alternatively, grab your USB cable and hook up to a PC or Mac and iTunes will guide you through the update.
