Are you sat looking at your recently purchased Nokia Lumia 920 and thinking “why Nokia, why?” right now? We don’t blame you – the Finnish co. just revealed the Lumia 925 as its latest and greatest phone less than half a year after it launched the Lumia 920.
Thankfully some of the software goodies found on the new Lumia 925 will be brought to Nokia’s not-so-old range of other Windows Phone 8 models later this year in the form of the Lumia Amber update.
Keen to not annoy those who have recently picked up a Lumia 920 or 820, Nokia confirmed this morning at its London media event that the Amber software update would bring its new ideas to all other phones running Windows Phone 8 in its portfolio. That means the Lumia 920, Lumia 820, Lumia 720, Lumia 620 and Lumia 520 will all be getting the Amber update.
Details on the update are pretty scarce right now, but we know for certain that it will bring Nokia’s new Smart Camera application. This adds exciting new shooting modes like Motion Focus and Action Shot, although we have a feeling that some of the lower end models in the range won’t be capable of performing the latter feature due to hardware limitations.
The update will also bring FM Radio functionality to all devices in the WP8 range, minus the Lumia 620. Interestingly Nokia put an FM Radio in the Lumie 920, 820, 720 and 520 but hasn’t made the feature available to users. That will all change when the Amber update lands.
Nokia has given us the very vague time frame of ‘summer’ for the update’s launch, so stay tuned for developments on that.
