Gran Turismo 6 has taken pole position ready to race to become the number one racing game once again on Sony’s PlayStation 3. A brand new demo and screenshots have been revealed alongside talk from developer Polyphony developing the game for the forthcoming PlayStation 4.
GT6 will be the sequel to the only Gran Turismo game to grace the PS3, Gran Turismo 5. Since word of the sequel got out a while ago everyone has been wondering whether it will come to Sony’s next-gen home console.
When questioned about a PS4 version of the game, Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi wasn’t shy; “We actually do have a PlayStation 4 version in mind,” he said.
Before the game comes to PS4 however, it will come to Sony’s current home console. A PS3 version will launch in time for Christmas, the developer confirmed yesterday at a Silverstone launch event. It sounds as though the game won’t come to the PS4 straight away either, with Yamauchi hinting at monthly updates and DLC and perhaps launching a PS4 version as a natural progression when gamers are done with the PS3 version.
To PlayStation gamers it might seem a strange move to bring out such a big title at the same time as Sony bringing out a new console, but Sony’s Europe CEO Jim Ryan believe otherwise; “If you look at the difference between GT and GT2, and GT3 and GT4, the change is not incremental. It’s absolutely massive.” “We’re very confident that you’ll see the step change between GT5 and GT6 as on the previous platform iterations. So there’s that: a sense of very much unfinished business on PS3.”
The game will hit stores some time nearer the end of the year, just in time for Christmas. Will it be overshadowed by the PS4? Only time will tell.
