The recently revealed Samsung Galaxy S4 Active will hit the UK on July 1st, according to trusted sources of Samsung experts SamMobile, confirming that the new rugged smartphone will in fact be reaching countries outside of the two that Samsung mentioned earlier this week.
The water and dust resistant model will arrive in the UK at the start of next month, although it’s not clear just yet which retailers and networks will be stocking it, nor for how much. We only know that Samsung will be bringing its ruggedly handsome new smartphone to our shores, but after Samsung only confirmed that the US and Sweden would be getting it at the launch this week, we’re happy to hear confirmation of UK availability either way.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is a tough variant of the Korean manufacturer’s 10 million-selling flagship Android smartphone, replacing the somewhat flimsy plastic body of the S4 with screwed-on metal panels, waterproofed sockets and an all-round durable exterior.
Rugged phones don’t tend to be much cop in the specifications department but Samsung has managed to cram in the same 5-inch Full HD display as the S4, the same quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, plus Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and a decent battery and some of the S4’s standout features like the Infrared blaster and Air Gesture. Samsung might have compromised on the camera a little by switching out the 13 megapixel rear sensor for an 8 megapixel one, but this still looks to be a serious smartphone with bags of potential. Heck, we even prefer the design of the S4 Active to the original S4!
We’ll hopefully uncover prices and more details on availability very soon, so stay tuned if you’re already keen on picking up the S4 Active.
