There’s a bit of a twist in this week’s App of the Week feature, for Humble Bundle 6 isn’t just an app. It’s six apps in one, and what’s more, every app works on a number of platforms including Android.
For those uninitiated, the Humble Bundle is a long-running deal whereby a selection of apps can be purchased for however much you want. You can choose your price to pay, but you have to ensure you buy before the time limit runs out! When you buy the Humble Bundle 6 you get to choose how your payment is split between the developers who provide the individual apps and also the Child’s Play Charity, which we think is awesome. If you’re feeling generous you can choose to send your entire payment to charity, or all to the developers.
Humble Bundle 6 offers 7 apps, two of which are only downloadable if you pay the average price ($4.66) or more: Frozen Synapse, Broken Sword: Director’s Cut, Aquaria, Fractal, Organ Trail: Director’s Cut, Stealth Bastard Deluxe and Pulse. The majority of the apps are games, bar Pulse, which is an excellent news reader. All apps can be downloaded on a platform of your choice, with Android, Windows, Mac and Linux versions of each app available.
Frozen Synapse
Winner of the Audience Award at the 2012 Independent Games Festival, Frozen Synapse is a turn-based combat game with a big focus on being as tactical as possible. Play against your mates in 5 different multiplayer modes or work your way through 55 single player missions.
Broken Sword: Director’s Cut
Broken Sword is a point and click adventure/investigation type game in which you’re required to search out clues and solve mysteries. You’ll be required to crack codes, solve puzzles and even a spot of sleuthing to get through this game.
Aquaria
Set under the sea, Aquaria sees you play as a mermaid called Naija; a troubled soul who seeks to find out more about her past, with your help.
Fractal
New to Android, Fractal is a geometric puzzle game which is a little like Bejeweled and the like in that you need to arrange similar objects, colours and such together in order to create a combo and build points. A pretty cool-looking twist on an old concept.
Organ Trail: Director’s Cut
Not to be confused with Oregon Trail, this title is a zombie survival game that has throwbacks to the Super Nintendo. It’s actually a parody on Oregon Trail, with the key difference being the addition of the undead and shotguns. Probably the best one of the lot.
Stealth Bastard Deluxe
Asides from cracking us up with the title alone, this is a strategy game that requires you, as you might expect, to be stealthy. There are 80 levels to test your brain out with, each with their own set of tricks and problems for you to solve.
Pulse
Finally there’s Pulse, the only app in Humble Bundle 6 that isn’t a game. Pulse is an excellent news reader and RSS aggregator that allows you to curate your own list of favourite websites, topics and areas and view stories, videos and updates as they hit the web.
Considering that a number of these apps cost £3+ each, the average price of around £5 makes Humble Bundle 6 an absolute bargain. Why not give it a go? The order link is below. Oh, and if Android isn’t for you, these apps (minus Pulse) can also be downloaded on Windows, Mac and Linux.
