Motorola ‘X Phone’ spotted in pictures ahead of launch, known as ‘XT1056’

Motorola’s next Android smartphone has been a long time coming, and given that Google has bought the company since it last launched a flagship phone, expectations are set pretty high.

We know that Moto has a phone in the works that’s known as the ‘X Phone’ and after executives confirmed its existence and let slip a few of its features, a leaked image shows the phone in the flesh. We’re told that the X Phone, or ‘XT1056’ to go by its model number, is currently in testing for US network Sprint and their 4G/LTE network.

The X Phone is rumoured to feature a 4.5-4.7-inch 720p HD display, a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and a 10 megapixel rear camera. Of course, the phone will benefit from Google’s ownership of Moto and will run the latest version of Android out of the box, which should be 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

We’ve previously spotted the phone also being tested on another major US network, AT&T, although at that time we didn’t get a glimpse of the phone in full, only close-ups of various aspects. Now we can see the phone fully we’re able to tell that it will rock a glossy black front which looks to be covered with Gorilla Glass, plus on screen buttons for the standard Android functions.

The leak confirms that Moto is expecting to go big with its next flagship Android phone as it is already getting it tested on the major US networks. We’re expecting to see the phone available on a lot of networks around the world as part of a big push from Google and Moto to rival the likes of Samsung, HTC and Apple. The X Phone is rumoured to launch around August time, so we still have a while to wait until the finer details become clearer.
