Nokia has launched yet another Lumia Windows Phone, this time in the form of the Lumia 625. Just as it did with the Lumia 925, the Finnish company has taken one of its recent Windows Phone 8 sporting models and upgraded it, adding the number 5 to the model number in the process.
Going by Nokia’s ascending number naming strategy, the Lumia 625 will sit in the middle of their range. It does however sit above all other models in one area and that’s screen size – a 4.7-inch display gives Nokia’s new model the biggest screen in the family.
That display, whilst nice and large, won’t match the latest Full HD phones in terms of quality. The resolution on offer is 800 x 480 pixels, although the screen is of the IPS variety so it should offer nice colours and good viewing angles. It’s also protected by Gorilla Glass, so you shouldn’t see scratches in the screen from the keys in your pocket.
Inside there’s a dual-core 1.2GHz processor from Qualcomm and 512MB of RAM, plus 8GB of storage which can be expanded upon by up to 64GB using the micro SD card slot. Microsoft also gives you 7GB of cloud storage with its SkyDrive service, so you won’t be strapped for storage space with this phone. A 5 megapixel camera sits on the back of the phone, whilst around the front there’s a VGA lens for video calling.
A 2,000 mAh battery should see you through a full day of usage, with Nokia promising 15 hours of usage from a single charge. The usual connectivity options are present in the form of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS. The Bluetooth tech is in fact Bluetooth 4.0; the latest standard which will allow connectivity with smart devices like fitness gadgets and smartwatches, which is a nice touch. There’s also a 4G version, for those who can pick up the phone on a compatible mobile network such as EE.
As has become tradition with Lumia devices, the 625 will come in a variety of bright colours, with easily interchangeable shells bringing back nostalgic memories of customising a Nokia 3310 with a new case. It’s quite heavy for its size however, weighing in at 158g. There’s no word on prices or launch dates just yet but stay tuned for updates.
UPDATE: The Lumia 625 will be priced at £200 or €220 and will hit O2, Vodafone, EE, Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U here in the UK early in September.
