Samsung’s rumoured revival of the flip phone is looking a lot more real today as images of the Samsung Galaxy Folder have leaked online, showing off the dual-display flip handset in its full glory.
The images leaked are pretty clear and appear to be press-like shots from Samsung itself. If this is the case then we can expect the Galaxy Folder to launch in the next few weeks as press shots are normally reserved for the end of a pre-production handset’s lifetime.
The rumoured specs for the device are reportedly also intact with the shots from Techkiddy, who say that the handset will feature a 3.7-inch AMOLED display with 800 x480 resolution running off a Snapdragon 400 1.7GHz dual-core processor chip with 2GB RAM, 1820mAh battery and 4G LTE support, all running off the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.
Some of the design elements of the Galaxy Folder (codenamed SHV-E400K) harken back to the heyday of the flip phone with gold edging on the case and a camera key replacing the on button the right hand side.
Samsung has previously released the SCH-W2013 in China last year so this handset doesn’t signify a brand new resurgence but it’s looking likely that Europe may see the Galaxy Folder flip phone land on our shores soon.
The golden markings on the side of the phone may also point towards the actual name of the handset, which is rumoured to be the Samsung Galaxy Golden.
We are not sure how we feel about flip phones making a comeback or what the flip aspect can offer users with Android, but as always we will be waiting to see the official handset upon release! What do you think? Is the flip phone dead or should it return to its former glory?
