Nokia has plans to introduce us to its biggest Windows Phone yet later this year, according to unnamed sources of The Verge.
The publication, which has started to develop a history of leaking accurate details on Nokia’s future plans, claims that a new Nokia phone codenamed ‘Bandit’ is in the works and features a whopping 6-inch display.
Nokia recently launched its largest Lumia phone to date in the form of the Lumia 625: a mid-range handset with a 4.7-inch display. If true, the Bandit will easily outsize it by a considerable margin in smartphone terms, putting it up there with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note II.
Despite having size on its side, the Lumia 625’s display isn’t the sharpest with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. However, the Bandit is said to sport a Full HD display with a crisp 1920 x 1080 resolution. We know that the next big Windows Phone update will include support for Full HD displays, and Bandit is said to be the first of many to use the latest screen technology which is already becoming popular amongst Android manufacturers.
The Verge also tells us that Bandit will pack a speedy quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a rear camera sensor of at least 20 megapixels. This detail seems a little shaky, but could point towards Nokia using the same 41 megapixel sensor as the Lumia 1020. On the other hand, we could be seeing a whole new sensor size being brought into play.
We’ve no word on when Nokia’s giant Windows Phone is set to hit the streets just yet, but stay tuned for further developments.
