With just three weeks to go until the release of Star Trek Into Darkness on DVD and Blu-ray, fans can enjoy an early peak at the home edition of JJ Abrams’ second directorial mission via iTunes, Amazon Streaming and Xbox LIVE Video.
Star Trek Into Darkness proved to be the biggest, boldest and highest grossing big screen adventure for the Enterprise crew to date and digital editions of the twelfth Star Trek flick (and second in the reboot franchise) are available from today on these popular platforms to make the movie even more accessible and to of course boost digital sales.
We also think it’s appropriate that space pioneers Captain Kirk and Mister Spock are here to mark the first time a movie of such Hollywood calibre has become available online before a retail release.
This digital first approach offers none of the frills but all the same thrills and those die-hard Trekkies who want a bit more substance to the Star trek Into Darkness experience can now pre-order the ‘Villain Edition’ – a stunning steel book Blu-ray set which features 2D and 3D versions of the film, limited edition packaging and die cast 1/50 scale replica of the U.S.S Vengeance, the ship hijacked in the movie by Benedict Cumberbatch’s sinister reimagining of an infamous antagonist.
iTunes is offering the sci-fi blockbuster today for $14.99 in the standard definition and $19.99 in HD – or if you can wait, the Villain Edition costs £44.99 on Play.com and will be released on September 2nd.
