Activision and Infinity Ward have released a full trailer for the incoming Call of Duty: Ghosts single player missions and as with most of the Infinity Ward CoD games, its looks a little bit epic.
The game, which will be released across the PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360 and then the next generation of consoles, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, will be coming on November 5th (or on release day for the PS4 and Xbox One) and up until now fans have seen much of the multiplayer and gameplay aspects, but very little surrounding the single player campaign.
Ghosts single player mode is a new storyline in the Call of Duty universe and does not follow on from the Modern Warfare line of games that Infinity Ward is normally associated with. The premise of Ghosts is as follows, in the words of Infinity Ward:
Call of Duty: Ghosts takes place in a near future following an attack from space by a Kinetic bombardment that changed the global balance of powers in the world. As a result, the United States lost its superpower status and was reduced into rural ruins in the mainland after the event with only a few areas remaining somewhat powerful. Ten years later, a powerful enemy from the south of the equator emerges as a threat to the United States, but remnants of US special operation forces from every branch came together to create an elite group of soldiers known as the “Ghosts”, who are determined to eradicate all threats to protect the weak and the remains of the US.
The trailer shows off the epic scale of the game and starts out with some space-based action which then descends into a boatload of explosions and what looks like a Dog vs Helicopter scene. There is talk of a weapon called ‘Odin’ which appears to wipe out most of the major cities in the US presenting some family issues that will likely see the lead characters be put on a path to glory.
Call of Duty is well known for its multipayer-centric releases but no-one can deny the importance of the single player campaigns of the games as a reason to buy. Typically Activision’s partner CoD developer Treyarch has had a bigger cult following with its Soap McTavish storyline but the Modern Warfare saga had its own fair share of highs and some big lows.
