HTC has an event on October 15th. Nokia has an event pencilled in on October 22nd. Apple is rumoured to be launching new iPads on the very same day. October is already shaping up to be a bumper month for new gadgets and now Google has been added to the mix, with the search engine giant believed to be hosting an event on October 15th where the Nexus 5 and hotly anticipated Android 4.4 ‘KitKat’ will both be officially unveiled.
The word comes from Google developers who have been partaking in Google Launchpad; a two week bootcamp where Google aims to help startups and new companies get off the ground.
The event focuses on software, product development and other areas where Google has expertise, and numerous developers have heard confirmation from Google reps that the new software and phone will be revealed on the 15th – the same day as HTC is expected to unveil the One Max and a full week ahead of Nokia and Apple’s announcements.
In the past few weeks the rumour mill has really kicked up a notch with regards to Google’s new software and the first phone expected to run it, the Nexus 5. We now know what the Nexus 5 will be packing thanks to leaked screenshots we received from an anonymous tipster – a 5-inch Full HD display, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3GHz chip, 2GB of RAM, wireless payments and printing, 16/32GB of storage and much more.
Android 4.4 will be Google’s first step away from the Jelly Bean name after three major updates (4.1, 4.2 and 4.3), though from the screenshots we revealed last week we’ve been able to confirm that the looks and functionality will remain much the same. Google looks to be adding native wireless printing, new camera functionality and ‘tap and pay’ wireless payments amongst other things, as well as a fresh lick of paint in various system apps.
Next week looks set to be a big one if you’re a gadget fan, so be sure to tune in as we bring you the latest from around the world.
