There have been so many leaked pictures, videos, user manuals and other pieces of information on Google’s forthcoming Nexus 5 that we’re beginning to wonder if there’s anything else we’re really missing. Nevertheless, brand new press images of the phone sporting Canadian network Telus branding are some of the clearest looks we’ve had yet at Google and LG’s new offspring.
Two high quality press images of the phone have been leaked by Mobile Syrup, showing the LG-made phone in its full glory and high detail. Both confirm various design aspects we’ve seen previously, including the curved top and bottom casing and what we’re almost certain is a slimmer frame compared to the Nexus 4.
The screenshots also confirm some design aspects of Android 4.4 ‘KitKat’ which we recently learned about through TuttoAndroid. Fans of stock Android will notice that the top notification bar and bottom soft keys bar are no longer black; rather Google has opted for a transparent design, giving the impression that the screen is much bigger.
Speaking of the screen, the Nexus 5 is expected to feature a larger and sharper 4.95-inch Full HD IPS display than its predecessor. There’s also reportedly a much faster quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip clocked at over 2GHz, 2GB of RAM and an improved 8-megapixel rear camera.
It’s also nice to see Google’s revamped app icons with a more playful, cartoonish look to the Camera app in particular. Interestingly, Hangouts replaces the usual Messaging app in the system tray – something that confirms rumours that text messaging will be combined into Google’s instant chat app.
With the rumoured October 15th launch date coming and passing without so much as a whisper, the rumour mill has now kicked out the date of October 31st. Google is said to be hosting an event on that day where we’ll finally see the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 officially for the first time. And who knows, there might even be the bonus of a Nexus smart watch.
