Launched late last month in the US only, Amazon’s exciting new range of Kindle Fire HDX tablets have finally arrived at Amazon.co.uk, ready for purchase from the giant web store.
In case you missed the original launch, the new Kindle Fire HDX tablets build on Amazon’s original Kindle Fire HD by utilising a much sharper Full HD screen type, faster and more capable processors, improved cameras and a slicker design. Both 7-inch and 8.9-inch versions are available and our fears of the 4G option being US-only have been allayed, as Amazon has teamed up with Vodafone to bring 4G connectivity to their new tablets. Prices are as follows:
7-inch
- 16GB Wi-Fi = £299
- 32GB Wi-Fi = £229
- 64GB Wi-Fi = £259
- 16GB Wi-Fi + 4G = £269
- 32GB Wi-Fi + 4G = £299
- 64GB Wi-Fi + 4G = £329
8.9-inch
- 16GB Wi-Fi = £329
- 32GB Wi-Fi = £369
- 64GB Wi-Fi = £409
- 16GB Wi-Fi + 4G = £399
- 32GB Wi-Fi + 4G = £439
- 64GB Wi-Fi + 4G = £479
As with Amazon’s original Kindle Fire devices, these all come with Amazon adverts (so-called ‘special offers’) built in. Buyers can opt to pay an extra £10 to be rid of ads at the checkout.
Amazon says that the Wi-Fi models will arrive earlier on November 13th for the 7-inch and November 19th for the 8.9-inch. If you want 4G connectivity you’ll have to wait until November 27th for the 7-inch or December 13th for the 8.9-inch model.
The new Kindle Fire has also arrived in the UK, priced at £119 for the 8GB and £139 for the 16GB. This model builds on the original Kindle Fire with a sharper HD display and a longer lasting battery, also benefiting from a host of new Amazon features which includes Kindle FreeTime. The new Kindle Fire will be available from October 24th.
If you’re not too bothered about Full HD or faster processors, the original Kindle Fire HD 8.9 can be picked up at the cut price of £199/£259 for 16 or 32GB versions.
