With the death of Google Reader back in July, many have been looking for a suitable RSS news sourcing alternative to fill the void and whilst many users have settled on services like Feedly and Reeder it’s looking like Facebook is trying to move into the news feed business too.
Tech website MyTechSkool has reported that a “saved for later” feature is being worked on at Facebook HQ that will allow users the ability to tag Facebook stories to read later on, potentially when offline.
The bookmarking option will allow users to see shared stories that appear in the News Feed, then save them by tapping a small bookmark button earmarked on the story links.
Users will then have a ‘saved’ option within their apps bar which will have a list of all previously bookmarked stories which allows users to store articles, links and interesting bits of information for viewing later on.
This will be the second time Facebook has tried out a news reading feature, as Zuckerberg’s folk tried the save for later function last year.
The idea is to bring Facebook forward into the future by having the social network as the go to place for all news, videos and trending topics, not just pictures of your friends’ holidays. However, as with many things Facebook, the system may simply not be popular, but as we all know, Facebook is not afraid to try something new!
