After wowing at E3 this year, Bungie’s next-gen title Destiny unfortunately didn’t make it to be a launch day title for the Xbox One and PS4 as planned. However, the developer has finally confirmed exactly when we can get our hands on the futuristic shooter – September 9th, 2014.
It was a leaked contract from Bungie which originally suggested that Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox would arrive late in 2013, way back in May of this year. Destiny was originally to be a launch title on the Xbox One and, unlike Bungie’s previous Halo series, it would also launch on Sony’s PS4.
Further to the launch date, Bungie has also confirmed there will be an early beta period where eager gamers can get their hands on the title for some game play. Unfortunately for Xbox owners, the beta period will only be available to those playing on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, at least to begin with says Bungie.
Come September 9th 2014, Destiny will be available to buy on the Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3 after some ten years in the making in partnership with Activision. It will be the first major title to come out of Bungie studios since the incredibly popular Halo series, which was exclusively for Microsoft’s Xbox consoles.
The title is a futuristic first person shooter set in a huge, open world and there’s plenty of influence from Halo titles, including massive weapons with plenty of gadgetry. The world in which you play Destiny will apparently change based on your actions as a player, so we’re very intrigued to see just how it plays out.
“We first shared the design pillars of Destiny less than one year ago. We promised to redefine what players should expect from a Bungie game. We said we wanted to change the way people play games together. We set our bar high. For us, Destiny represents a once in a lifetime opportunity” said Bungie in a recent blog post.
Pre-orders are already up and running for the game on all platforms, with prices ranging from £44.99 for Xbox 360 and PS3 to £54.99 for the Xbox One and PS4 versions.
