Last week it was reported that Motorola’s Moto G handset would start to receive the latest Android 4.4 KitKat update within the next few days. Well, after nearly a week of constant update checks we and many others across the UK can confirm that the latest Android version is now landing on the affordable smartphone from Moto.
Users should be checking their smartphones now for the OTA (Over the Air) update to see if the 4.4 goodness has arrived by heading into Settings > About phone > System updates.

Moto G owners are already getting a pretty good deal by having a very capable smartphone running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in its purest form, but today Google has given them more reason to brag – at just £135, the Moto G has now become the first non-Nexus device in the UK to get Android 4.4 KitKat.
Motorola announced today that Google’s latest mobile operating system would be coming to the Moto G shortly, joining its bigger brother the Moto X which also got KitKat in the US last month. The two devices, produced by a company now owned by Google, are unsurprisingly the first two non-Nexus devices in the world to upgrade to KitKat.
Undoubtedly the news will fill Galaxy S4, HTC One, Xperia Z1 and other flagship phone owners with hate, as their pricey, high-end phones are getting beaten to the update by a phone costing just £135 SIM-Free.
Android 4.4 will be available as an update for Moto G owners in the UK over the next couple of days, with a notification due to pop-up advertising its availability. For those impatient to get upgraded, simply head into Settings > About phone > System updates to manually check.
Android 4.4 brings speed improvements, a new Gallery app, better security, a tweaked Camera app and the new Google Hangouts app which allows text messaging, Google+ Hangouts and Google Talk conversations to be combined into one.
