Motorola’s current flagship smartphone the Moto X is finally heading to the UK after a period of exclusivity in the US. The company will bring its highly customisable Android phone to the UK, France and Germany from February 1st for £380 SIM-free.
The phone has been around in the US for a couple of months now, whilst its more affordable sibling the Moto G has already become a hit in the UK. Now the flagship will be joining the G, costing over £100 less than rivals such as the iPhone 5S and Galaxy S4.
Perhaps the biggest draw of the Moto X is customisation; A service called Moto Maker allows the buyer to change almost all aspects of the phone in terms of colour and materials, with even a wood option on offer – it’s like the NikeiD service of the smartphone world. Unfortunately this won’t be available for UK Moto X buyers, at least to begin with anyway. Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside has explained that the company wants to find a way to ensure Moto Maker customised phones can be made and shipped to the customer within 4 days of ordering, just as it currently does in the US.
Only three EU countries will get the Moto X to begin with, and there are no concrete plans for it to travel elsewhere on the continent for the time being. That said, with the phone being SIM-free it will work almost anywhere, so anyone desperate for a Moto X could order from the UK and have it shipped, we’re sure.

For those who have no idea what a Moto X is, it’s Motorola’s first smartphone since Google bought out the company. Naturally, it runs Android 4.4 KitKat in almost its purest form, sports a 4.7-inch 720p HD display, 10-megapixel camera, a dual-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon processor and has a hand-friendly curved design.
We’re sure that the Moto X will appeal to Android fanatics and could possibly make some Nexus converts out there come February 1st. Will you be buying one?
