In recent years Samsung has been synonymous with the Android operating system thanks to its Galaxy smartphones, but you would be foolish to think that the company only deals in the Google-built OS. Well, it’s looking like Samsung will be soon releasing its own operating system called Tizen, and thanks to some leaked images we can see just what the OS and the first device to run it might look like
A leak from the Korean website moveplayer.net has appeared online which shows off a device called the Samsung Zeke, which will reportedly be the first Tizen OS smartphone from the company and will come with some strong features and hardware to support the OS launch.
The Zeke ZEQ9000 will reportedly feature a 4.8-inch 720p HD display running off a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core CPU. It’s also reported that the Tizen handset could come in both single and dual-SIM variants which is a trend normally popular amongst mobile manufacturers in Europe.
The Tizen OS is to be Samsung’s own offering to the mobile world and looks like a cross between Windows Phone 8 with its tiles and large icons and perhaps a touch of Google’s Android OS. A version of the software was shown on the Galaxy S4 in September 2013 featuring a clean user interface with a Windows Phone feel to the tile layout, but since then we’ve heard little about project Tizen.
There is every chance that the image could be fake and all the information is just a good guess at what the Tizen-based smartphone could hold, but with Samsung reportedly working hard on its own OS it seems that the Korean company has become fed up of living under Google’s rules.
With Samsung and Intel both stating that they will be revealing a new wave of devices to complement the Tizen OS at this year’s Mobile World Congress next month, we have every belief that the handset specs and image leaked today is indeed something from the Samsung camp. We expect Samsung to announce the Tizen operating system on the 23rd February in Barcelona along with at least one phone which will run the OS.
