Sony’s PlayStation 4 console is still riding high after its November release in the UK but it seems that retailers are keen to keep on shifting the next generation consoles en-masse by offering an extra discount on the PS4 here in the UK.
Major gaming retailer GameStop UK has slashed £20 off the price of the standard PS4 console package, taking the price from £349.99 down to £329.99. This is the basic, game-free package which will give users the PlayStation 4 console, DualShock 4 controller, all the cables and a PlayStation headset.
This drop in price is not an official price drop initiated by Sony, but more a case of games retailers competing with each other to try and get those post-Christmas sales up. However, this is the first time that any discount has been made on either of the next-gen consoles and so we may see some sort of Xbox One comeback with a price drop of its own.

Many other console retailers are still lacking stock of Sony’s PS4, which is leading many to believe that it is selling better than Microsoft’s Xbox One. However, with no official word on sales figures (well, not since January’s CES statement) there is no way to confirm which console is selling better.
Amazon, who are famous for matching online prices, are still listing the PlayStation 4 at £349.99 for the standard edition, but as the consoles are currently out of stock we could see a price-matching drop when new stock arrives.
What this does mean is that gamers who have waited for the console to drop in price can now rush to pick one up from GameStop with a cool £20 saving.
