Sony is currently rolling out a System Software 3.10 update for the PS Vita, bringing with it a whole heap of changes and new features. This new update includes changes to the home screen and we’re sure you’ll all be pleased to hear you can now display 100 applications on the home screen, with the total limit on apps being raised to 500. However, after a brief look on the Sony app store we’re fairly sure there’s not even 500 on there.
The 3.10 software update also brings the addition of voice messages, and as with the new voice message system on the PS4 you can now exchange messages with other friends who have either a PS4 or a PS Vita. Hopefully this won’t go the way of the Xbox 360’s voice messages and end up with lots of spam voice messages flying around.
Parental controls have also received an overhaul with many new features; for example you will now be able to restrict store access, preventing your children from inadvertently spending all of you money, using some easily set out age guides so you can set an appropriate level of security.
Next up is a new calendar app, which is meant to be used for creating gameplay events with your friends and can be synced with your Google Calendar. You’ll also be able to invite your friends to share events by using Messages and Email.
Finally, you can check and manage your memory card usage with Manage Content on Memory Card, which seems an odd feature to only be adding now but a welcome one nonetheless.
Other new features include:
- Music – You will now be able to search for content saved on a connected device such as a PC.
- Video – You’ll be able to now sort content by size.
- Photo – Rotate Screen Automatically has been added to Photos to control tilt sensor for rotation of images. Freeform has been added to the panoramic mode selection list.
- Settings – Adjust Daylight Saving Automatically has been added. 30 minutes has been added in Enter Standby Mode Automatically.
