Nokia Lumia 630 and 635 Windows Phone 8.1 handsets official

Nokia’s new Windows Phone 8.1 sporting device, the Nokia Lumia 630, has officially been revealed after a few leaks of the device in the last week. Nokia announced the handset at a special Lumia event at the Microsoft Build conference in San Francisco last night.

Over the past week we have seen the handset (and more importantly the Windows 8.1 OS) in action in a leaked video, and then late yesterday and official press shot of the handset was leaked online by The @Evleaks Twitter account.

So Nokia have unleashed the new mid-range Windows Phone 8.1-powered smartphone in two forms, the Lumia 630 and Lumia 635. The reasoning behind the two devices comes down to 4G and Dual SIM functionality.

The Lumia 635 is a 4G LTE enabled device whereas the Lumia 630 is will be a 3G variant of which there will also be a dual-SIM version. However the apart from that the handsets are the same as they both have 4.5-inch ClearBlack screens with Gorilla Glass 3 display which runs of a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor. There is also a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus on the back and decent 1830mAh battery.

As the specs reveal the handset is a mid-ranged smartphone from Nokia, and will come running the latest Windows Phone 8.1 software. This comes with a suite of standard Nokia Apps including Nokia Maps and Music, plus a load of new features like a fitness tracking app with an integrated low-power chip called SensorCore. Nokia are also promising a faster social experience with the new Word Flow keyboard, upgraded Live Tiles, the new Action Centre.

With the leaked photos we also saw the colour variations that the 630/635 will be coming in, and now Nokia have confirmed the choices as the handsets will come in a variety of matte finishes, that are also changeable shells. You can buy the phone in yellow, orange, green, white and black versions, with the option to buy more cases later on.

Nokia Lumia 630 will be released in May in Asia and Europe first for €119 for the standard variant or €129 for the dual-SIM version, but we don’t expect this to land in the UK specifically. With the Nokia Lumia 635 landing shortly after the 630 in July, after an initial release in the US where its will be priced around € 149 (189).
