Nokia Lumia 930 announced with Windows Phone 8.1

At the Nokia Lumia press event, during the Microsoft Build conference in San Francisco, Nokia have just announced brand new flagship Window’s Phone 8.1 running smartphone, the Lumia 930, which whilst every new, is still pretty familiar to tech heads.

The Lumia 930 is basically the Nokia Lumia 925 Icon that has previously only been available in the US, but now Nokia have took the premium specced handset and give it an official handset release, this time with Windows 8.1 inside.

Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop (for now!) took to the stage at the Microsoft event to reveal the handset officially (we had seen the device just 24 hour previously) and showcased the Lumia 930 by stating that “It integrates the best of Microsoft with the best of Lumia” and that the 930 is a “flagship phone” for Windows Phone 8.1.

We can see why Nokia are very excited about the 930 though, as it comes with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution 5-inch display (that’s 1080p with 441 ppi), a nippy 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 32GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM plus a massive 20MP PureView camera with optical image stabilization and Zeiss optics.

The handset seems to keep all of the best bits of previous Lumia handsets, but in one device with a stylish and customisable design. The handset also features wireless charging built-in, but unlike previous handsets there is no need for an additional case, as some previous Lumia devices have needed.

Software wise, the handset will be released running the brand new Windows Phone 8.1 update on it as well as some new Nokia apps and features to boot. A new Living Images feature promises to “turn static pictures into living memories,” plus updates to  Nokia’s Creative Studio to make editing images easier and adding range of new filters.

One of the other major features of the 930 is the inclusion of four high-performance digital microphones, which allows for directional recording on videos, which means the device can record directional stereo recording or surround sound.

The actual device is built out of an aluminium frame with a polycarbonate multiple coloured backs, as the device is available in orange, green, black and white versions. The handset will be released in June, Europe first then landing in Asia, India and the Middle East and is set to retail around £360 ($599).
