Sony’s Xperia Z2 is still only a few months old, but as the Mobile phone industry rarely sits back to take things in, rumours of a new Sony Xperia Z2 Compact are now appearing online thanks to a leaked image from Sony’s native Japan.
The leaked document shows of a XPERIA A2 devices, which is assumed to be a smaller version of the Xperia Z2 flagship smartphone. The leaked image is of a Japanese brochure was posted on the ATRPG blog and has full details on what the smaller handset will feature.

Many of the listed features of the A2 match those of last year’s Xperia Z1 Compact devices, hence the assumption that it’s a slightly updated version. The Xperia A2 will a 4.3-inch device running a 720 x 1280 resolution screen, a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB built-in storage all of which add up to a decent smartphone.
There really are not a lot of major differences in the leaked specifications form the original Xperia Z1 Compact, but what this could means is that Sony are taking a step back from the “Smaller version, Same Specifications” idea for the Compact and might be providing a a lower spec handset more akin to what Samsung and HTC do with their mid ranged phones.
One thing we do know though, is that the A2 will be coming in for different colour variants of Gray Black, White, Orange and a rather horrible sounding Lavendar.
If you compare the leaked specs to the Xperia Z2, you can see a notable step backwards in tech with the Z2 sporting a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and 1920 x 1080 resolution screen, all of which is far off the listed XPERIA A2 details.
The XPERIA A2 is currently nothing more than a leaked handset, it could eventually be the Z2 Compact or it could just stay as a Japanese variant handset that we in Europe never see.
