The news came from Microsoft’s Xbox Programming director Larry Hryb aka Major Nelson, who stated on NeoGAF “Soon. Very Soon.” in response to a question on the controllers PC compatibility.

Microsoft did announce that Xbox One controller support would be coming to PC’s in 2014 but didn’t give an exact time as it isn’t thought to be as easy as it seems to get the two to work together. In an announcement in August, Microsoft stated “New wireless protocol, combined with the ability to work in ‘wired’ mode, and the addition of features like Impulse triggers, means that new software has to be written and optimized for the PC, there is also some work that we need to do to make sure that existing PC games that support the Xbox 360 controller, will work with the Xbox One controller. While it seems trivial, it’s actually quite a bit of dedicated work for all that to be seamless for the user.”

The new Xbox One controller contains many improvements from that of its 360 predecessor. One of the improvements includes rumble motors in its trigger buttons that respond differently depending on the action. It is because of these differences that the current Xbox one controller isn’t yet compatible. But fear not the Xbox 360 controllers are still good to use in the meantime while the compatibility is worked on.
