Google Glass Goes from Geek to Chic

Google were more than aware of how aesthetically displeasing their Google Glasses were previously; because of this they’re now trying desperately to combat the ugly remarks and have announced a new range of Google Glass headsets created in collaboration with fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg’s studio, DVF.

The range will include five new Glass frame styles and eight new shades available from June 23rd from Net-A-Porter and the Google Glass store. M-Porter will also be stocking the Titanium Collection frames for fashion conscious men.

In the past Google has come under scrutiny for the design of their Glasses (or lack of). Popular designer Marc Newson was famously quoted saying “What Google have done thus far, I wouldn’t be seen dead wearing. It really looks pretty stupid,” he said. “It’s a little bit like that wonderful invention called the Segway. It’s such a fantastic piece of technology but you just look like a complete dick when you drive around on it.”

Google has tried hard to make the Glass appear less geeky and more chic-y, and the collaboration with DVF is a great place to start. They’ve been appearing at fashion events such as New York Fashion Week in an attempt to make their frames more stylish.

Although the frames themselves have been made more appealing, there’s still the issue of the Glass technology itself looking like a lipstick stuck to your eyebrow. The range has tried to battle this by changing the colour to compliment the frame, but is it really enough to be considered attractive?
