Sierra May Return at GamesCom 2014

Long time gaming developer and publisher Sierra has raised its head once again, after being seemingly dead and buried since 2008. The company was responsible for some of the most memorable game titles from the 80’s and 90’s, when video games were hip and cutting edge, unlike these days when you can smash Halo on co-op with your Dad.

Sierra was responsible for the big ones, which of course the COD generation will scratch their heads at if quizzed about. We’re talking the oldies here, Leisure Suit Larry, Mixed Up Mother Goose, Quest for Glory, Space Quest, and King’s Quest. Games this author may never have played, but has most certainly heard of.

Anyways, Activision has brought the company seemingly back from the dead, after being merged with the remnants of company following it’s closure. Head over to Sierra.com, there’s a trailer up there which is quite uninformative, except for the © 2014 Activision Publishing, Inc. message at the end which suggests the industry giant has broken out the shovels and pickaxes for a bit of Sierra graverobbing.

On top of that, the site shows that there’s more info to be had at the upcoming GamesCom 2014, where most likely Activision will parade the newly resurrected husk of Sierra in a shiny new form. There’s a lot of exciting things coming at GamesCom this year, this announcement not being the least.

Most prominently on the lips of classic gaming fans (apart from Cheeto dust) is a simple question: “Will this be the Sierra we know and love?”. The answer will of course come at GamesCom. However, it seems that the company may only be a shadow of it’s former self, as long as studio heads and co-founders Ken and Roberta Williams remain estranged from their former brainchild.

We’ll keep you covered on the fate of Sierra when those long and revealing GamesCom live streams start dropping. One of our tireless bloggers will be up at 4am to bring you all the coverage, only minutes later. Lucky you. Watch this space.
