Smartwatches and other wearables usually require a paired handset in order for most of their functionality to be relevant to a user, i.e. push notifications, contacts and messages streamed from the phone to the watch face. These features are common throughout Android Wear devices, but what if someone just want to get hold of a smartwatch because it’s stylish, or they don’t always want to walk around with both devices?
Well, in a recent interview with CNET, Google’s David Singleton of Android Wear engineering, a plethora of apps are soon to arrive for these devices, plus additionalfeatures are also on the way which might increase the utility oif a standalone Android Wear device.
“We’ll have an update coming that allows you to pair a Bluetooth headset with your watch. And that means you can play music stored on your watch directly on your Bluetooth headset.” Singleton said to CNET.

He also pointed out that Android Wear doesn’t always have to be synched up to a phone, the two can be arted ans sync data later.
“If you’re someone who likes to go for a run, it might be convenient to be able to leave your phone at home. So you can start recording your track with GPS on the watch. You can throw on some music and have a really enjoyable run. And when you come back home, everything will be synced up with the apps running on your phone.”
These additional features, as well as a whole host of new watch faces will be arriving between now and the end of the year. The next big ANdroid Wear releases, such as the Moto 360 and ZenWatch, are set for unveiling and eventual release in that time period as well

“There will be several before the end of the year. You’ll see one come out [this] week where we’ll be able to improve the navigation experience and some of the voice action experience.” Said Singleton regarding these updates.
If you’re in the market for a wearable or smartwatch Android Wear is a sound choice. What could possibly go wrong with Google at the helm?
