Acer’s President Jim Wong has revealed that his company will be following quad-core leader ASUS into the next evolution of portable computing processors by unveiling a successor to the Iconia Tab as soon as next year.
“You may have seen some leaked stories in the media relating to Acer launching a new quad-core tablet and I can confirm these stories are true.” – says Acer boss, Wong.
Speaking to a fellow tech-site, Wong spoke of Acer’s plan to feature Nvidia Tegra 3 chips in the future tablet, speaking of the ‘aggressive’ front needed to compete against the likes of Motorola and ASUS which has just started its massive push of the latest Eee Pad geektastically titled the Transformer Prime.
The ASUS’ model features the latest Android operating software Ice Cream Sandwich which is dual-optimised for use on both smartphone and tablet, effectively making preceding tablet-only platform Honeycomb redundant. It’s expected that Acer’s next offering will also feature ICS, despite rumour that the Google OS was to be dropped.
Wong says “Tablets are a very important category to expand our business. We are the only company selling Windows 7 tablets in volume and next year we will continue to do the same thing with second generation windows tablets on the way in addition to our Android tablets.”
